THE ENHANCING ROLE OF MOLASSES

At the present, the importance of molasses has been increasing. It is being utilized as a raw material in industrial food & beverage production around 1 million tons. In the meantime, Thailand is the no. 1 molasses exporter in the world which in the last 3 years; Thailand has exported averagely 1.4-1.5 million tons, valued averagely at over 50 million USD. Furthermore, the result from high fuel cost helps boost the consumption of molasses for ethanol production mixing with Benzene to become an alternative energy or gasohol which is Bt. 1.50/ liter cheaper than Benzene Octane 95 and also helps reduce petroleum import. As a result, the domestic demand of molasses has increased to 1.53 million tons / year.

The Industry Minister visited and viewed the operation of ethanol production factory and distributed high-grade seeds to farmers at Sakaew province.


BANGCHAK COMPLAINT THE PRICE OF ETHANOL ...

Bangchak: the company has stopped gasohol 95 gas station expansions due to the price of ethanol from the factory citing that price of raw material is high and setting retail price unfairly which leading to the stagnant of gasohol sale revenue in every gas station, concerning the government policy to encourage people to use gasohol instead of Benzene failed in the mean time, group of producer complaint that the present retail price still does not cover with the costs and stop production partly. As the case of ethanol production factory liberalization expected to have no positive results as there still are over 10 factories out of operation due to insufficient raw material “Pornchai” insisted the target from government has not changed.


ES POWER STARTS ETHANOL PRODUCTION

ES Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastern Sugar Co, will start producing ethanol next month from a one-billion-baht ethanol production plant in Sa Kaeo.

Kittisak Wattanavekin, the deputy managing director of ES Power, said the company expected its investment to break even in 10 to 15 years.

The company hopes for one billion baht in revenue when the plant reaches full capacity next year. It expects output of 20 million litres this year generating sales of 400 million baht.
